STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — 5050 Skatepark wished the Staten Island Ferry a happy 200th birthday by holding a fundraiser for a local hospital Saturday night in Stapleton.

The free event offered live music, food and featured dozens of paintings and photographs of Staten Island’s iconic boat — which were donated by numerous local artists.

Photographs and artwork were submitted by Vin Barone, Mark Blasko, Jozette Carter-Williams, Michael Defuri, Eric Isaksen, Kristopher Johnson, Nick Jones, Ryan Lavis, Scott Marceau, Maggie Rose Melito, Carol Mitteldorff, Don Arangio, Chad Rachman, Valentiono Scaramella, Michael Sent, Mike Shane, Virginia Sherry, Adam Smith, Sean Sweeney, Tabitha Leee Turchio and Scott Van Campen.

The goal of the night was to raise money for construction on Richmond University Medical Center’s (RUMC) new emergency room in West Brighton.

Eric Isaksen, an EMT at RUMC, helped organize the event along with 5050 co-founder Ed Pollio.

“This is something I feel really passionate about,” said Isaksen. “I love riding my bike here at 5050, I love photography, but most important is helping people that need better emergency health care on the North Shore.”

As for Pollio, anything that involves “showing off art” and “raising money for a hospital” is something he’ll always be a part of.

Visionary Summer Jam August 26th

NY Grands Bicycle Film Festival

The NY Grands has been a staple event in the New York City BMX scene for the past 6 years. The unpredictability of the New York City Streets makes this race not only a physical challenge, but also a mental test. In past years this event has brought many to ruins, (especially Hoder and an old lady) and only few to Glory: Dave Rodebaugh (RIP), Ratkid, Jon Lynn, and for the last two years, Tyrone Williams.

Who will be crowned the next champion? Join us Sunday, June 25th to witness the carnage.

ZUMIEZ X ADDIDAS HOST #SKATETHELOFTNYC X Webster Hall

Words by Ed Pollio:

When I was 10 years old my step father was a cab driver for Wadsworth Cab Service.
I would go with him as he drove the cab around Staten Island picking up passengers.

Once every week my step father drove a man to NYC who worked at Webster Hall.  During each trip
I would overhear crazy stories based around this mysterious place.  Every week the man would come back with a new, wild story about something that had happened there.  The man and my step father spoke like 2 adults would normally speak to each other, barely acknowledging how bizarre the stories were.  As a little boy, this made me both amazed and terrified.  As soon as I could go to a show at Webster, I would.

Years later I finally got to see my first show there, which was Atmosphere.  Being able to attend a concert at a venue where both my parents spent some of their childhood was awesome, but almost weird at the same time.  It was great knowing some history before ever being at the venue.

If you would have told me back then that one day I would be building a skatepark in the illustrious Webster Hall, I would have told you that you were insane.  However, Zumiez made the project a reality for us.

Here is a video below of my great team working along with the amazing crew at Webster Hall building the #skateloftnyc for Zumiez and Addias. Thanks to Joe Fontaine and Christian Villacres for hiring us and adding to my amazing memories at Webster Hall.  One day I hope my children can enjoy Webster Hall as me and my parents have.
